Hi so am after some advice. I have FTTC and the cabinet is about 1500m from my home. when it was first offered i was getting speeds upto 20Mbps. Since then (in my opinion) the quality of the copper connection from the cabinet to my house has deteriorated and my avg max speed is now 12Mbps. However previous bband provider sky refused to accept fault and reduced my guaranteed minimum speed to 7Mbps and ultimately offered to let me leave my contract after it repeatedly dropped below 3Mbps. So i am back at BT the line speed hasnt changed (unsurprisingly). Any ideas how i can get someone to investigate quality of the copper connections and reliability of my connections?
Those stats show a download speed of less than 1Mbps and a very high noise margin indicating a line fault.
If you still have an analogue landline, check for a noisy line. If it is noisy, report the fault as phone fault rather than broadband.
these stats are from the SKY router is it possible to connect the BT hub and repost starts? do you have noise on your phone line as your noise margin appears high compared to normal 6db
Correct. someone from sky community helped me get this data from my router a few months ago. my phone service is now completely digital as part of the broadband package,
Any tips on how i can check via new BT Hub?
Also the issue is intermittent so i might test today and get 12Mbps and then tonight get 1 Mbps
Advanced settings> technical log > information
from the stats you are currently getting 13.5mb down and 3.7mb up and you connection has been stable for virtually 10 days your max attainable is 16.5mbdown and 3.7mb up and your noise margin is at 9.6db . provided no line noise your noise margin should drop to about 6db which will increase down speed to nearer attainable
