Hi, I have BT broadband which is part fibre, so I get around 70mb.
I only have one phone socket in the house which is also the master socket and it's at the back of the house. The box also looks outdated/old and the cable from it hangs on the outside wall.
How would I go about updating it and possibly moving it to the front of the house so that it's more central for a router please? Is it likely to be expensive?
Thanks
Upgrade to full fibre then it'll cost nothing.
To answer your question openreach changes around £150
I'm not sure when full fibre will arrive where I live.
Spoke to BT and an engineer was here in 45 minutes, which is crazy but great. Said cable outside and box itself are fine. Would be £130 to move the socket. Just not sure if it's worth it or not.
Why not just install an extension socket and run a cable yourself. It's only 2 wires and not polarity conscious.
Good idea
Would serve as a stop gap til full fibre arrives.
Then openreach will install a new socket free of charge
They don’t install a new socket.
They install a wall mounted modem called an ONT (Optical Network Terminal). That doesn’t have to be in the same location as the old master socket but it does have to be within about a metre and half of a power point or a mains extension lead.
Think we're getting mixed up here
I read into it that he wants to move the phone to the front of the house.
Obviously with full fibre/DV the phone would automatically be where the full fibre router is.
Wasn't expecting openreach to install a new socket just metaphorically speaking about if the op obtained fttp
How would I do that?
Go on YouTube and look up
