Moving from BT to EE

Go to solution

I cannot switch to EE from BT at the moment because I have a BT TV package.

Reading both BT and EE community forums has highlighted some potential consequences of switching, i.e. loss of Standard/Premium email and potentially BT Cloud. However, the EE forum has 2 conflicting posts, one saying BT Cloud is lost, the other says it is retained.

Please can I have a definitive statement from either a mod (or someone else from BT) that clarifies what happens with the BT Mail and BT Cloud when someone switches to EE.

I am aware that for anyone giving up BT Broadband there is a downgrade of BT Mail, but I am not sure whether it applies in the current situation where BT is actively encouraging people to migrate to EE.

Many thanks!

I've read before that switching from BT to EE lets you keep standard BT mail and BT cloud

Hi @verkosh,

Where did you read that? I have not seen it mentioned anywhere.

It was here

https://community.bt.com/t5/Bills-Packages/BT-to-EE/m-p/2326085

A mod has confirmed you keep standard email and cloud

Thanks @verkosh.

That deals with the Cloud bit.

The mod says “Customers who move to New EE can continue using their e-mail service at no extra charge and do not have to move to Premium Mail.”

I have Standard email (which is equivalent to Premium email). My reading of the above post, combined with others that I have seen imply that migrating customers are downgraded to Basic email unless they pay £7.50/month for Premium email. Basic email is only accessible via a browser and does not include multiple email accounts.

I read it to mean you keep standard email,  some confirmation either way would be good though as im in the same situation,  On BT but cant switch to EE at the moment due to having BT TV but wanting to switch when possible to get the 1.6gbps package and upgraded router and wifi disc.

I will want to keep my email adress though since i've had it many years

@RussK  I read it completely differently in that you can continue to use bt email without the need to pay for it

Hi @garybs29

You’ve nailed the problem. The statement about retaining email doesn’t make clear whether it is Basic or Standard.

If it is Basic, you keep your main email address, but can only access it via a browser. If you have multiple email addresses (like I do) then you lose them and the ability to access email via an app.

TBH it seems perfectly clear to me - "continue to use (ie as mormal) without having to pay for premium"

From that thread. Seems unambiguous to me.

Hi @Willowside_9, I just wanted to update you that @David500 is correct and you will continue to have email and Cloud (if you use it) at no extra charge.

Customers who move to New EE can continue using their e-mail service at no extra charge and do not have to move to Premium Mail.

Cheers

John
