Netomnia vs BT

Go to solution

BT were active in my area two or three months ago, installing full fibre cables, but when I check online, there is no current or future dates as to when this will be available.

I have today received communication from Netomnia, stating they have installed full fibre in my area and I can now receive full fibre to the home.

When I follow the link, they ask for personal details, which I do not wish to give right now as I am confused that they are saying full fibre can be received, but BT have not notified me of this.

Ideally I want to remain with BT, but with Netomnia now giving me the opportunity of full fibre, I don't know whether I should jump or wait

The logical explanation is you saw Netomnia installing FTTP equipment in your area , they extensively use Openreach’s  physical infrastructure like poles , ducts and pavement jointboxes to provide their own services, that would explain why Netomnia are now offering services and BT are not yet offering FTTP , FYI , BT use Openreach networks so it can never be BT you see upgrading infrastructure, Openreach or their contractors will eventually upgrade your  area with FTTP that BT can then use to offer FTTP.

As far  as jumping ship to Netomnia or waiting for Openreach to fit FTTP equipment is really down to you , Openreach upgrades may be just around the corner or may be a year or two away ( possibly longer ) you can put your postcode into an Openreach website to see if there are any plans now or in the near future for their FTTP.

Thanks for that. Yes, my error, it was Openreach (well at least Openreach vans) who were installing the cables and I had a chat with them. They couldnt give a timeframe as to when BT would offer the full fibre service.

Re: Netomnia vs BT

Presumably Netomnia managed to install their equipment without you noticing, as Openreach do not install equipment for them , (they are competitors not partners) if Netomnia are ready to offer services then they must have already installed their equipment, however if you did see Openreach also fitting equipment for themselves ( and this isn’t unusual for OR to respond to a competitor in an area and also upgrade the area ) then BT should be in a position to offer FTTP in the relatively near future , so if you wait , it may not be too long before BT show FTTP as available , a difference is generally Openreach don’t knock on doors to advertise Openreach FTTP when it is  available ( that’s difficult as Openreach are not an ISP and they can’t suggest BT over other ISPs ) but Netomnia have no such regulatory problems, they often flood an area immediately after their equipment is fitted , door to door selling their FTTP , so you would have to keep checking BT yourself for availability if staying with BT is your preference , although you may get contacted by BT or OR by other means when their FTTP is ready .

Thanks again. Netomnia have been agressivly knocking on doors and dropping leaflets ..... possibly to get a foot in the door before BT.
I will hang fire to see if BT offer FTTP in the coming months
