Hi Me and my partner are currently in the process of building a new home we have had a quote from open reach for £9183+VAT I feel this is excessive from the research I have done I was expecting to have to pay between £2000-£4000 has any one else experienced this or has anyone got any advice/ recommendations of alternatives to Openreach as we did not budget to have to pay this silly amount.
Thanks
How much it costs depends on how much work is involved.
All new homes must now be provided with Fibre. If there is none in the area at present then it might be the case they have to get Fibre in from the nearest Agg Node with Capacity that could be hundreds, if not thousands of meters away.
Have they provided you with a breakdown of what work is involved and it’s associated cost.
You might be able to bring down any costs by doing the work that is required within the boundary of your property but anything on public land will need to be done by Openreach as it’ll need all the necessary Permits, etc.
In regards to Alternatives you might struggle there unless another Network Provider like VM or CityFibre are present.
There is of course 4 or 5G Mobile Broadband. Fixed Wireless Access or Starlink.
Are you building next to homes that already have fibre?
If so just wait until your property is nearing completion and order fibre through an ISP.
Openreach will then just install it in the same way as they do for any home that orders fibre.
That’s assuming there is available Capacity.
Openreach only build one fibre to each SDU.
If there are say 20 houses already on the street the 20 live Ports will already be assigned a NAD Key.
Said Splitter they’re connected to may also be at Capacity so it may still require additional Cabling and Network Build such as a new Splitter/SASA.
Yes, but until asked nobody will know.
