ONT upgrade options Post Installation

Go to solution

Hi

I have obtained an upgraded ONT modem, Nokia-ONT (T) orange 2.5ghz ethernet port. I have the serial number and the item is new. I currently have the 1ghz version of the Nokia ONT. I understand the modem is associated to the head and that is done in the back office.

Has anyone tried to upgrade their ONT, and if so any suggestions on the best way to proceed. (the rational for upgrading, relates to an intermittent issue faced when connecting the modem(ONT) to my cisco ASA (5525x Firewall-Router), there was some suggestions that the early version of the Nokia-ONT 1ghz may not be able to maintain the connection speed when directly connected to a cisco ASA.

I may be wrong but I suspect that Openreach will not allow you to use your own ONT on their network.

Another consideration is if you do fit your own ONT any faults with the broadband and you're on your own as openreach will literally blame everything on you not having the supplied ONT

You are using ghz incorrectly, that’s a measure of frequency and the port speed is irrelevant if you are on a sub Gb service , if you want an Openreach 2.5Gb ONT , upgrade to EE 1.6Gb service .

As far as you suppling your own 2.5Gb  ONT and it supposedly being more ‘compatible’ with your Cisco equipment, you’ll never know , OR will not countenance you supplying your own ONT as that has implications for the security and stability of all other users on your PON , basically it won’t happen .

How much did you pay for your new Paperweight out of interest?

Shame, I’d have only charged you £5 for the advice that you can’t supply your own as Openreach won’t allow it.

Perhaps you could use it as a centre piece during dinner parties.
