Openreach 1Gbps Up/Down (I'm all ears)

Openreach Reveal UK Plan for Symmetric 1Gbps FTTP Broadband UPDATE - ISPreview UK

Saw some heat regarding this over on thinkbroadband.....

Did wonder if the symmetric up and down speeds alt nets were offering at very reasonable prices would perhaps boot OR into considering the same whilst ISPs want to compete. Maybe not, who knows, but this is very exciting.

From what I can tell it’ll only be available to those on Adtran Head Ends.

Is that down to equipment capability?

Also, any way for consumers to know if they are on such a Head End?  Just out of curiosity.

Re: Openreach 1Gbps Up/Down (I'm all ears)

Adtran is just a type of Technology Openreach use for their Head Ends.

They currently use;

ECI, which is being phased out as it’s outdated tech.

Huawei, again this is being phased out because the U.K. Government don’t like the idea of a certain Communist Country having tech plugged into the the Core Network.

Nokia, still in use.

And Adtran.

As far as I’m aware Adtran ONT’s aren’t interchangeable like Nokia and Huawei ones so if you have an Adtran ONT you’re on an Adtran Head End.

If you have a Nokia or Huawei ONT you could be on either.

if you have an ECI ONT then good luck.
