I've noticed over last few weeks that my internet connection has randomly reset and router was reporting some connection errors.
Today it's extremely slow and wonder if I've been put into a banded profile because of the errors or if the line has just broken down even further?
I did hard reset the router once and double check everything such as username entered correctly etc etc. It reconnected at the same low speed. Think my package is Fibre 2 (if it's still called that) and usually maintains solid 8MB/s. Pic from router settings attached. Haven't altered any wiring in the house but wonder if water getting in somewhere outside as seems to have happened each time there was heavy rain. Already reporting errors even at slow speed.
Have had problems like this before but last few years it's been quite solid.
What's the quickest way to go about getting this sorted? Do mods still watch these posts and assign engineers?
Nothing wrong with those stats, SNRm is normal at 6.3dB and speed close to your normal 8Mbps at 6.7Mbps
Really. Upload speed is nowhere near what it should be. This is why I wondered if I'm on a banded profile because I'm not getting anywhere near those speeds.
Tried a range of sites and use cases from downloading a purchase from Bandcamp, updating a game in Steam to downloading of an iso from Usenet and general speed tests. Usually get a solid nearly max 8Mbps speed.
Fastest I can achieve is 1.8Mbps download with upload of only 0.5Mbps. Can't stream any video or anything without stuttering
Unfortunately you are starting from a very low base in the first place. 8Mbps is extremely slow, but you are still getting 6.7Mbps. It is possible that DLM has intervened to increase your noise margin to 6dB (the standard margin) rather than possibly 3dB that a very stable line can achieve. Your upload speed is 4.5Mbps
Perhaps I used the wrong terminology letters after the numbers, sorry. I'm a customer not a computer technician. I'm on Fibre 2 broadband whatever that should be! Usually get nearly 80 whatever down and 18 whatever up. Router reports I'm usually connected with max available down of 80 and up of 20.
I'm currently getting 1.5 down and 0.5 up in real world regardless of what my router is telling me. Plus max line speeds reported by router are a lot less than normal.
Whatever you're saying is normal I can assure you is not for me. I cant currently even stream a YouTube vid let alone download a 4gb iso in under 10 mins which I usually can.
Fibre 2 broadband speed can be anything from 1Mbps to 80Mbps depending on your distance from the cabinet.
Put your phone number in the checker ( or use the address option if you have Digital Voice) and post a screenshot of the result. Edit out any personal information from the screenshot before posting. This will show what your expected speeds are.
If you still have an analogue landline, do you still have dial tone?
I usually get nearly 80Mbps download and nearly 19 up. I'm only a minutes walk from the exchange. . It's been like that for 4 years since last time I went through all this on this forum before getting it fixed.
I cant speed test anything on the wholesale site because I no longer have a phone number since BT dumped it for ip stuff. It asks me for access line id or uprn. Neither of which I know and Google search of where to find has not helped.
You originally said you normally get 8Mbps not 80Mbps, hence my original response.
There is an option to enter your address in the checker if you don't have a phone line.
Sorry, didn't post link previously

If you do normally get 80Mbps, I suspect one wire has become disconnected somewhere, broadband will work very slowly over one wire but an analogue phone requires both wires.
That being the case, you need to report the fault to BT.
With drop in connection you saying would suggest that you have a bad connection probably in the master socket. Broadband works with 1 wire connected although slowly. Have you tried using text socket?
It won't let me upload screenshot of address checker? God knows why, I've tried reducing it down in size? It says clean should be 80 high and 67 low and impacted 80 and 63. Upload 20 and 19.
I apologise for using wrong terminology. I knew saying 80mb would be wrong so googled BT Fibre 2 speed and it said 8Mbps not 80 so that's what I used. I assumed M wa ls a ten multiplier or something . Obviously not. Like I say I'm a customer not a computer technician.
I've tried ringing bt but can't get anyone with any sense. They just tell me to reboot router and look at pretty flashing lights etc etc etc and when I say i have a connection they say there problem solved. They don't seem to understand.
Why I came on here as remember last time I was connected with a UK engineer who actually understood the problem I was trying to explain.
It really shouldn't be this much of a song and dance to get connected with someone, especially the amount BT charge.
