Possible scam text message

I have this same text twice now once last week and now again this week.

I get two messages at the same time, I've looked up the number and it flags as a scam number.

The problem is I have just placed an order with BT for Fibre. The message is as below.

Hi, BT here.

We still need to confirm some information with you regarding your recent order.

Please give us a call on 0330 1230 931.

We're open 8am-9pm Mon to Fri, 8am-8pm Sat and 9am-6pm Sun.

It seems very vague and a bit crass, also why no email.

Re: Possible scam text message

If it’s a scam , its not the usual scam format ,and seems quite a coincidence if you have got a pending order , and after all calling a UK number is hardly anonymous, and I doubt the scammer is going to use a UK telephone number in this way, most scams are clicking on links , or they call you and use ‘social engineering’ to manipulate you , not leaving a number for you to call them .

Reverse number trackers are a bit useless in my opinion, a number can have many results, often 50/50 saying it’s genuine or it’s a scam , personally I don’t see scammers using numbers where you call them .

As far as email , if you are suspicious about a text , presumably you woukd be equally suspicious about an email , as stated , call the usual customer service number if calling  0330 1230 931 is making you uncomfortable

Re: Possible scam text message

That was my thoughts, it was just the wording and the double texts each time. Maybe I'm to cautious.

Any way I phoned BT customer service number and it turns out my order has been cancelled (?). The chap I spoke to helpfully said that he can sort it out. I was put on hold for 5 mins the phone was answered again and some body else answered by asking "what's up" and "can you tell me the crack" I'm already on the back foot explained everything again and all he kept talking about is transferring to EE by this time I'm getting wound up I asked for my original order to go through, I've again been put on hold at this point after wasting half an hour I hung up. I thought BT would be better than this.

Re: Possible scam text message

Is your order for ‘fibre’ a BT to BT upgrade or are you joining from another provider, if BT to BT are you getting ‘full fibre’ swapping from FTTC ?
BT were pushing customers to join EE but that policy was abandoned when a senior executive left BT and a new executive decided keeping BT as a consumer brand was the way forward, perhaps the BT Guide you spoke to didn’t get the memo.
Cancelling an order can happen for a variety of reasons , even not responding to a text within a certain time , perhaps calling the main customer service number and not the number on the text wasn’t a good idea .
