Re: Appalling Bullying Behaviour

When you are told you need an engineer visit didn’t you ask ‘why do I need an engineer visit’ ? especially if you know that a migration to BT DV doesn’t usually need a visit to your home , for some customers , flagged as vulnerable, they get , what in many circumstances is an unnecessary visit as it’s considered beyond their capabilities to do this simple change of location of the phone cord , moving it from point A (the wall socket ) to point B , (the router socket ) , although presumably if these cases also need a new router , because they don’t already have a SH2 ,perhaps help setting up the new router is considered worthy of the visit , are you classed as vulnerable ?
You seem reluctant to answer direct questions, yet provide responses to unasked questions, so there is some engagement from you (so I’ll assume you are not just playing a game ) , yet it doesn’t really help with understanding your situation.

Perhaps you can answer these questions directly,

If you are on FTTC , exactly how do you know this  ?

Do you have a BT router with an inbuilt phone socket that can accept a regular phone cord  ?

Is there anything unusual about your location, for example, like you live at the extremity of an exchange area , and never had FTTC for a long time  , but that was solved by some local network rearrangement connecting you to a cabinet associated with a different exchange area ?, clearly not just this , absolutely anything out of the ordinary with your location ?

Re: Appalling Bullying Behaviour

I was told by BT and an Openreach engineer that I was on FTTC and would not be getting FTTP is the near/mid future

 YES
yes and I told the guides on the phone that I did not need an engineer or want an engineer but they insisted that it was the only way to resolve my problem -

I have told the guides many, many times that I don't need an engineer - although I do want a battery backup as mobile is so poor

I am not flagged as vulnerable and perfectly capable of moving the cable !

Re: Appalling Bullying Behaviour

TBH , I was looking for something more than ‘that’s what someone said’ look at you BT bill , what broadband type / name does it say , or do a speed test , although under 20Mb is inconclusive, if it’s over 24Mb then that’s not achievable on ADSL so must be FTTC .

Presumably you are calling the number on the individual communication rather than the general BT customer service number , presumably apart from saying you need an engineer visit (which you seemingly don’t ) what else do they say when you challenge them to explain the complexity over what is normally a simple task just convert to DV .

It could be you are caught up in some historical record error, your information showing you have products you don’t actually have (like SMPF , or ADSL) both if these make more sense as they potentially need Openreach involvement, but short of some odd situation where you are on a FTTC cabinet that isn’t associated with your existing telephone number , then it makes no sense why you are not simply migrated to DV if you are already on FTTC with BT broadband and BT telephony .

As far as the communication you received can’t be unique to you , that’s unlikely, but customers on SMPF and potentially ADSL will have a fundamentally more complex journey to be removed off the PSTN switch .

Finally , you always gave the option to switch , to EE or even a completely different provider such as Sky or Vodafone both supply a telephone service if required and can port the phone number into their networks , so if you feel appalled or bullied, consider that option.

Which is pretty much exactly what I stated in post 11.

BT is unlikely to care whether you stay or go because thousands of customers switch in and out on a weekly/monthly/yearly basis. I'd wager there's no brand loyalty amongst most customers these days, that sentiment is from a bygone era. You go to EE from BT, you're still with BT and vice versa. Determining which brand is the better of the two, well that's subjective, but it's still the same company whichever way you swing it.

Re: Appalling Bullying Behaviour

@kimkim , TBH , I suspect my reason for the OP to consider switching to a different provider is different to yours , in my case it’s not because I think BT have a ‘laissez faire’ or ‘couldn’t care less’ attitude towards retention of customers but because if it’s a fundamental data error within  BT Consumer dataset for this customer, getting past that may be problematic , it may simply be less aggravating for the OP to join someone who doesn’t use that BT Consumer data
