This has come up a few times. The text numbers that BT use aren't premium numbers & are free to text from your call plan. But the type of number is one that typically is used for premium services. So in order to text BT, you have to have premium texts enabled on your phone & may also need to have an "out of plan" limit on your account set above zero.
