Replacement Smart Hub 2 received after upgrade to FTTP

Last week Openreach upgraded our broadband to FTTP, and, in the process, the Openreach engineer declared that our existing Smart Hub 2 was not configured for full fibre (he also muttered something about there sometimes being a firmware update that might fix this). He decided that we needed a new Smart Hub 2 so had me phone BT, he then explained the situation to BT and got them to order a new Smart Hub 2. He continued the installation of full fibre, left the old router connected to the copper wire connection and left instructions regarding reconnecting the new hub once it arrived. After he had left, I logged on to the Hub manager and noticed that the GUI now looked different from before, and when I checked the technical log it indicated that the firmware had been updated in the time between speaking to BT and the engineer leaving. After enabling full fibre mode, we have now had full fibre connection ever since (with the Hybrid Connect modem connected wirelessly and the Digital Voice adapter working properly - these had not connected to the Smart Hub 2 before the firmware update). The new hub has arrived with instructions on returning the old one with a note that if we don't return the old equipment, we will be charged £50. I am reluctant to install the new hub and spend time reconnecting devices that are working fine, so my question is, will there be any benefit in using the new hub (are there any improvements over the older version)? My inclination is to not install the new one, but to keep it 'just in case' and pay the £50. Incidentally, the new hub seems to have an older version of the firmware (v0.38.00.10147-BT) than the older hub (v0.43.01.15019-BT).

The 2 hubs will be identical, the firmware of the new one will update to the latest version once connected.

Up to you what you do.

You can simply change the WiFi SSID and password of the new hub to match that of the old to obviate the need to change all your devices if you wish.

Thanks, I had wondered about changing the SSID and password, so I may go down that road. There's no immediate hurry to return the old hub, so I'll think about it for a while.
