Stable connection started becoming unstable

Ive had BT for a good few years now and its been flawless. Up until this week. The connection has dropped from 64Mb download to just under 1. I then have to go on onto the BT page to run their own diagnostics, this usually fixes it after a half hour. This has happened twice this week. Its obviously not my kit. Any ideas what this is ?

As long as you don't have digital voice can you check your phone line by dialling 17070 option 2 should be silent and best done with corded phone in test socket if possible

Re: Stable connection started becoming unstable

It would tell you two things,

a) Do you have a dial tone? Broadband will work at a reduced speed if one wire is disconnected, phone won't work.

b) Is there any noise on the line? Noise on the line would reduce BB speed.

You can use a cordless but may get a normal background hum, any other noise indicates a problem.

But its working full speed just about all the time. If there was a wire disconnected, would that not mean it would be rubbish all the time ? Again, same thing with the noise.

Re: Stable connection started becoming unstable

This is the most basic test and no point trying other suggestions before you have completed the check that your line is fine and noise free
