Switch off ONT

Go to solution

I want to switch off my ONT for a few days to decorate a room, relying on my hybrid connect.  Will BT think there is fault?

It’s most unlikely that switching off the ONT and using the hybrid mobile connection will generate a BT fault report , and it’s even less likely that Openreach would be dispatched to visit your address without first making an appointment with you to be home .

If your  intention is to unplug the ONT from both the mains and optical lead , then you need to be aware that contamination ( dirt/debris ) on the exposed optical lead can lead to problems when you reconnect it .

The Head End will see a Los of Signal from the ONT.

As it’s only one ONT on that Port that has a LOS Openreach won’t take any action.

If say there were 27 ONT’s connected to that Head End Port and all 27 had a LOS at exactly the same time then that would set an alarm off but even then I doubt you’ll see half a dozen Openreach vans rushing to respond to it.
