Mine was capped at 55 Mbps on FTTC so suspect it will stay the same if I stay with BT plus I’m still paying £20 a month although I think the free phone calls have stopped.
It is Home Essentials fibre 2 it originally have free calls included but think that has stopped now.
Yes I suspect my speed was wrongly capped at F1 speeds even though my account says F2.
I suspect you’ll get the maximum for the package.
I was on Part Fibre (FTTC) for 10 years getting 58Mb/s, even though the package was “up to 80Mb/s”. Signed up for Full Fibre (FTTP) 150Mb/s, 150Mb/s is what I get.
As I said before, FTTP doesn’t suffer from the vagaries of things like distance that FTTC does. What you get is what it says on the tin.
Going back to the original questions then , move to Home Essentials F2 on FTTP it will be faster as you will get 80Mb , if you move to another ISP , then FTTP will be required anyway as once it’s available it’s almost certain that you will need to accept FTTP as a condition of joining the new ISP .
You said early March is when your proposed move to DV and FTTP was scheduled, it’s early March now , so any move to another ISP is unlikely to completed before your change to DV , but you should only need to advise the new ISP , they , if they use OTS (one touch switching) serve notice to BT on your behalf
I would be happy with 80 Mbps so I’ll let BT do the upgrade and see what the speed is. I can always move to another ISP later if I’m not happy with it.
The upgrade hasn’t been done yet due to change of date. I’ll stay with BT for now and see what speed I get. If it’s 80 Mbps I’d be happy with that.
