Will they ever upgrade the internet in my area? It's been over 5 years at this point.

As title states, will they ever upgrade the internet in our area? We get around 60mbps download, and have been promised they will upgrade "soon".

At this point where I am has some of the lowest internet speeds I could find. Gloucestershire seems to have just been ignored.

Just looking for clarification, as if they expect us to wait another 5 years while charging us through the nose, I would rather pursue another option like Starlink.

@BertBertsson

if you currently have a 60mb connection speed then you will not have the slowest connection speed around.  the availability of FTTP is nothing to do with BT Retail and you need to contact openreach

BT don’t install FTTP networks , they use Openreach , yet I doubt you would post a similar ‘complaint’ on Sky , Talk Talk or Vodafone customers forums .
Openreach decides what areas to upgrade and when , you can enquire with them directly , but obviously everywhere can’t be upgraded at the same time , with any list , there is a top , middle and bottom……there are dozens of alternatives to Openreach , so if you can’t wait for Openreach , you can always enquire with these competitors.

60mbps is what I get from FTTC and I find it absolutely fine for email, web browsing and streaming live television. Unless you are an avid gamer, or are running a business depending on the internet, I can't see that getting faster FTTP will actually provide you with any real advantage.

Re: Will they ever upgrade the internet in my area? It's been over 5 years at this point.

I am an avid gamer yes. It's just odd that people are paying the same price for far better speed in other areas. Not to mention the fact they have been claiming to be rolling the internet out in our area "soon" for over 5 years now.

Between that and the constant struggles I've had with my connection with BT, I think I may pursue other avenues after 15 years or so with this company. Thank you for your reply.

Re: Will they ever upgrade the internet in my area? It's been over 5 years at this point.

It’s not really true that others pay less for more speed , if you get 60Mb then you are on F2 , the price for BTF2 is the same on FTTC and on FTTP , obviously someone on FTTP can get higher speeds 500/900 etc but they cost more than F2 ….its true that someone on FTTP would get the full 80Mb from F2 , but I get 80Mb from BT on FTTC , that’s just physics , not policy, you are obviously a greater distance from your FTTC ‘cabinet’ , than I am from mine .

OR have rollout out almost a much FTTP as all the alternatives added together, so although that doesn’t benefit you , it does show the scale of Openreach ambition, if an alternative is available to you before OR upgrade your area , you obviously are at liberty to join them

I’ve spent the past 20+ years Building/Installing/Maintaining FTTP Networks from the Head End right out the ONT.

I can’t get FTTP where I live and probs won’t for at least the next couple of years.
