renewal of contact issue

Hi just a quick question please my mother is on the social tariff no income plan she gets FFTC averaging around 40 up 10 down which is more than enough. She's received an email saying in Jan they will run the check again and automatically put her on another 12 months . All good except it said £18 when it costs £16

I ring up bt again and explain why it's 18 not 16 they tell me it's £16 and that he will renew the contract again now despite me telling him no I want it to renew in Jan. Then I get an email saying an engineer has been booked for 23rd Dec ??? I ring up and ask what for he goes to install FFTP I tell him she doesn't want that nor does she need it we would like the existing set up. He goes you can't but if he comes just explain you don't want any drilling into the walls and to leave it on the original. I then tell him to cancel the contract and I'll ring back in January

Thing is if I don't ring back and leave it to them to run the eligibility check will the contract continue as normal or will they again try and push full fibre to her please can someone confirm.

Re: renewal of contact issue

These are the up to date  essential costs

social tariffsocial tariff

your mother may be in a openreach stop/sell area where any new or renewals are automatically switch to FTTP  there is no change in costs

Re: renewal of contact issue

Hi thanks for the reply. This was the case 2 years agowhere they again wanted to put her on full fibre I just cancelled the engineer visit and the contract continued as normal. The guy I spoke to on the phone told me just to refuse the engineer if you want to stay on the same line if that's the case surely to prevent wasting the engineer visit give customers the option when renewing

However my query is if I just let the contract renew automatically will they still book an engineer as it's not a new contract it's existing like I did last time. The walls of the house are old and drilling she doesn't want as in the past had cowboys who messed up the walls

Re: renewal of contact issue

as I said new or renewals will be moved to FTTP if you are in an openreach stop/sell area as they no longer sell the older broadband using the copper cable.  you may get away with it for another year but you will be FTTP by 2027

Re: renewal of contact issue

Thanks for that hoping I can get away with it for another year as currently she gets 40 down 10 up which is the standard for the no income social tariff so full fibre I don't see any use especially as speed will remain the same

Also I see in the chart you posted above a £15 plan with mins is that correct as they told me plans start from £16

Re: renewal of contact issue

the plan your mother is on is £16 not £15    the £15 plan is where no fibre available and lower speed'  your mother has fibre available hence suggested move to FTTP
