Adding an eSIM from a new provider to my iPhone with a BT physical SIM

Go to solution

I have a BT mobile account with a physical  (nano) SIM on an unlocked iPhone 14. I also have an Australian mobile account with a physical SIM which I have interchanged with the BT SIM when I am in Australia. The Australian service provider has provided me with the codes etc necessary to put an eSIM on my phone so I don't have to shuffle SIMs. When I start the installation the BT-C SIM, with great impertinence I think, advises that I cannot do it. I don't believe this!!!

How do I set up my phone to have the Australian eSIM on my iPhone together with the BT physical. Or do I need to port to a more accommodating UK service provider

@phsutton

I think only EE allow E-SIMS in the phone, but another forum member may provide more information.

@phsutton  What happens if you remove the physical BT SIM, install the Australian eSIM and then put the physical BT SIM back in?

@Keith_Beddoe  The OP want's to install an eSIM from another supplier and keep the physical BT SIM.

Thank you. Yes removing the BT SIM works. Starting "SIMless" I installed my Australian eSIM. I then reinserted the BT SIM and the phone (as far as I can see) now seems quite happy accommodating both and has received texts addressed to both numbers. I've yet to find out whether it switches appropriately between SIMs for outgoing stuff and mobile data.

So problem solved
