Hi, have just gone into my BT app to see that BT Mobile is going to be relaunched with new plans etc…?
I was really peeved to see this because until last month, I was still with BT mobile as I have been for the last 15+ years.
The only reason I switched was that I got in contact to update all my BT services. I was sold a new Broadband and TV plan, both still either BT, but the mobile plan sold was with EE.
As my old BT mobile plan was effectively stuck on a 5gb plan and I couldn’t change the plan, I went with the suggested 50gb plan with EE which wasn’t much extra in truth.
It was a change I’d rather not have made though - I mean EE service has been fine - but I’d rather have stayed with who I know, with all my services in one place. I’d also rather not have gone through the extra hard credit search, new credit account opened and lowering of my average age of credit accounts, which have all had a visible effect on my credit score, and could have been avoided if this was known as I would have hung on longer.
So now I’ve pre-registered for BT Mobile again based on what is being advertised as good deals if you are a BT Broadband customer and want to bring your services under one umbrella- which is exactly what I would have liked all along!!
The other issue too now is that I’m 1 month into a 24 month sim-only contract with EE, so I’m guessing I wouldn’t be able to switch without some kind of early termination cost - but is it likely BT would meet that cost given this relationship the two companies have, along with all the above inconvenience caused?
I know it’s still not launched yet but thought I’d make some early enquiry ready for when it does. and sorry oh to moan, the circumstances are just somewhat frustrating!!
Were you pressured into being moved to the EE mobile plan, or did you willingly go along with it?
Do you actually use 50gb of data every month? Did you get by just fine on your previous monthly data allowance?
If you are past the 14 day cooling period, I doubt EE would let you off with an early termination fee and you'll sadly be stuck where you are now unless you're prepared to fork out fees. To be honest, it won't really make any difference whatsoever you being with either EE or BT mobile, same company, different badge. Appreciate you want to keep things all under one roof, but it isn't worth stressing over.
As for your credit file, unfortunately, that is what it is. I've recently paid off my mortgage and my credit file took a hit knocking off about 100 points but it actually means very little and in the real world, it will make virtually no difference, so again, don't stress over it.
the new BT mobile plans are 30 day rolling sim and due to launch on Wednesday 20 May 2026
Hi, no, there was no pressure - it was all via an online chat. I guess its just a hindsight thing, wishing I knew the BT relaunch was going to happen, but maybe the advisor didn’t know any different then either.
Three of the four of us were probably fine on the old data allowance, apart from my teenage son who would get through his allowance more than often! So new allowance suits him anyway.
So yes will just stick with it anyway- probably just felt the need to let my inner Victor Meldrew ‘I Don’t Believe It’ moment out when I saw the relaunch news!! My previous BT mobile contract had been out of contract for 8 years, so the timing was just really unlucky given that I’d finally done something about it!!
Thanks for reply anyway - appreciated!!
Same here I was with BT mobile since the days of Cellnet
Then one renewal time I was offered a fantastic deal of unlimited everything and "free" BT sport for £20
Stayed with EE ever since
Unless it's a earth shattering deal really can't see the attraction of returning to BT mobile
