BT Mobile won't receive calls

A last ditch attempt to get my problem solved.  I have tried everything on my mobile handset to solve this problem, but now thinking it is perhaps BT.  Sometimes a call gets through but I have not established a pattern of which provider they might be using - but my phone just tells me that "a number" called (not identified by my contacts) and left no message.  I have had wifi calling on, then off.  The phone will not receive calls.  Any ideas please.

You say you've tried everything but don't say if that includes requesting a replacement SIM

Re: BT Mobile won't receive calls

All sorted.  Seems that something changed with coverage on 28 Oct and I must leave bt to solve this problem.

Spent over an hour on the phone with BT who came to this conclusion.

Cheers for following this up

Re: BT Mobile won't receive calls

Do you mean that BT have told you that you need to switch over to EE and they’re going to send you a new SIM? I sometimes have failed calls from people who are in my contacts and it just identifies the number without the name.

@Brucemeister5

I mean that wouldn’t make sense because BT uses the EE Network and customers who use BT Mobile can remain with BT Mobile, new customers can’t join BT Mobile.

I know EE are turning off 2G & 3G in favour of 4G & 5G this could be a reason maybe?

I mean I’m with Vodafone instead of a miss call I get a robotic text to tell me I’ve had a miss call but no miss call displays in my call logs, this the samething your experiencing on BT Mobile?

You can check your coverage by using https://coverage.ee.co.uk/coverage/ee or https://ee.co.uk/why-ee/4g-coverage

@FIZZYLP  You and I both may know that it doesn’t make sense, but since when did that matter as to what an agent in a call centre might tell tell you in order to switch you over to EE and pocket their commission. I’ve heard one or two tall stories in that regard. Of course, your explanation is perfectly plausible.

Re: BT Mobile won't receive calls

@Brucemeister5

Commission is at heart of all good sales representatives driving their decisions even if it goes against business ethics, that’s in all businesses and will always see customers not getting a choice to move to NEW EE even though the business has said from day one no one will be pressured to leave EE legacy or BT Legacy.

that could be one reason but depends if they have told the original poster he had to join a completely different company or move to EE from BT.

when Vodafone turned off 2G and 3G on my local mast it effected my service massively took 10 days, new sim, disconnect and reconnect, network reset etc then my phone is now working as I expect but lost my disconnect which they cannot offer me again… but anyways when the original poster stated that the mast has operational changes this could be the turn off process of 2G & 3G as all affected customers with old model of phones are being offered a 4G model free of charge.

it’s hard to say exactly the cause but it’s extremely unlikely that EE would completely remove a mast from an area.

I just recommend looking at the coverage checker for the original poster to establish if the coverage is still available and if 2G & 3G is still active on the mast, until then I don’t think we can pin point the exact course.

Re: BT Mobile won't receive calls

@FIZZYLP

There are no imminent plans to switch of 2G.

If you are still using a 3G device, you will no longer be able to access our 3G network resulting in no mobile data service access after 3G is switched off. This means you will no longer be able to access the internet or messaging apps such as WhatsApp. You will still be able to make and receive calls and texts on our 2G network.

Vodafone haven't switched theirs off either.

Will 2G be switched off too?

No, we’re not switching off our 2G network. It currently covers more than 99% of the UK population, and you can keep using it for calls and texts.

I appreciate that you mean well but some of what you're posting is simply inaccurate.

Re: BT Mobile won't receive calls

Note that I am making no comment nor taking sides but just to clarify

Each MNO is setting its own timetable for switch-off
(Para) 2.6 Each MNO has confirmed that its 3G network will be switched off first, starting from early
2023:
• Vodafone is starting its switch-off in early 2023.2
• EE plans to start its switch-off in early 2024.3

Re: BT Mobile won't receive calls

@rbz5416

Not completely switching off overnight across the whole country and network at once, my local mast has been switched off and I have an iPhone 14 Pro and it caused havoc with my device even though my Mast supports 4G & 5G.

nothing I said was inaccurate but I know EE have also announced their switch off so was stating if that’s the reason for their network issues.
