BTUK - text message for Xmas Advent Calendar

Go to solution

Just received a Text message from BTUK.  Stating to say thankyou they have an Advent Calendar and provides a link to go.bt.com to win prizes

Is this a legit text?  Since the text STOP is 61998 and I read conflicting information that this is a legit text No.  I 'm not convinced since the link is also only http.

REALLY??

They send out a text to a site that is only http://go.bt.com and not https

And they also send direct links. Which BT state you should never press?

  • Don't click on links, reply or text back

Yes really. http://go.bt.com is used for campaigns on behalf of BT.

https://www.bt.com/help/landline/i-ve-just-got-a-text-from-61998-or-60204--is-this-a-genuine-mess

The go.bt.com is a subdomain of the bt.com domain and as said it's for campaigns and used to help track clicks and measure the success of a campaign.

Thanks very much for your response.

No wonder people are confused. In this day and age with all the scams/frauds, they feed out text messages with a link to a non secure site,  which then instantly asks for your login details. This totally contradicts all the scam and fraud advise we are given.  Shame on BT for this.

Instead of including links that could well be considered dodgy (I for one never click on links in unsolicited text messages and e-mail), why don't such messages simply say something along the lines of ' See MyBT for full details'
