Transferring Mobile number

URGENT HELP NEEDED PLEASE. I have just installed my new EE sim and want to keep my old mobile number (from BT).

I had a text message for EE asking if I wanted to transfer to old number. I gave them my PAC CODE from BT and enterered  my old number that I want???? - Never done this before so totality confused - should I have given them the new EE number ???. 
Tried to phone EE on 150 but cannot talk to an human and non of the options covered this.

Thank you, yes I have already read that, its just the terminology I was trying to get my head around when EE asked in a text "enter the number you want to transfer from" does this mean my old I number that I want to keep?
I was talking to a BT guy yesterday who said I would have to give them the PAC CODE and my phone number on the new Sim. which seems to contradict what I gave. EE this morning.
Thing is I have been with BT for as long as I can remember and never had to do this before - its only to do with being transfer from BT to EE for the Mobile.
