iPhone iPad tethering

I’m (in France) trying to tether my iPad to my iPhone to connect to tinterweb but when I select my phone in the iPad WiFi settings, all I get is a whirling circle of doom against the iPhone entry. I’m sure I did this ok last year when I was here but having no luck this time . . . any bright ideas anyone?

Have you tried turning both devices off and on to see if that helps.

If that does not work try calling Michael Matheson the SNP Member of the Scottish Parliament who managed to set up tethering between his Government iPhone and iPad to watch football with his sons and run up a £11,000 data bill which he expected the tax payer to pay.

I’ve had this - after updating my iphone the new iphone would not tether with my older iPad anymore using the migrated association.

I had to remove / forget the connection on the iPad, turn off hotspot on the iPhone, power cycle both devices and then set up the tethering again from scratch.
