Gap between bt contracts, what to do about emails

I am changing bt contracts and there will be a gap of about 10 days between ending one and starting another.  What should I do about keeping my bt email address?  I read somewhere that there is a period of 60 days before the email is cut off.  Is that correct?  If so, do I need to do anything?

Thanks.

Re: Gap between bt contracts, what to do about emails

When you say there is a gap between contracts. Why is that?

Usually when your Fixed Term Contract  ends a new one begins or you automatically go onto 30 day rolling contract until such times as you start another Fixed Term Contract.

It would only be if your present contract ceased ie stopped, such as you moving to a new provider or no longer wanting any broadband that anything would happen to your email.

The old contract is in my husband's name.  I have a new contract in my name.

Re: Gap between bt contracts, what to do about emails

If it is a new contract in your name the emails accounts that were started from your husbands contract will not just carry over onto your contract. He will no longer be a BT Broadband customer so the email accounts will be downgraded to the free BTMail Basic accounts.

You would need to move "link" them to your new BT Broadband account otherwise they will all remain free BTMail Basic account which can only be used with a web browser and not with email clients or email apps or you would need to take out a BTPremium email account if you choose not to link them.

See following link.

The best option for you is to link the email accounts to your BT Broadband account.

To "link" them see the following link.

I doubt that the email accounts will be downgraded during the short gap between old and new contracts but if they are you can link the email accounts at anytime after your BT Broadband account goes active and until then you will still have access to them through a web browser.
