Suspect this is a scammer but - phone call from BT Technical Dept regarding unusual activity on my Broadband and my IP address being compromised. I was asked to enter myIPaddress on Google and a long complicated number showed up and the BT man said it might show PUBLIC but needs to be made PRIVATE. He asked had I used another device or allowed another user to log on to my account? NO to both questions.
Is my IP address considered to be private?? I have never, to the best of my memory, been private
I called him out as not being legitimate and hung up. Contacting BT myself, they immediately said SCAMMER and logged it as a report.
Its just a scam.
Your public IP is normally private, but can be viewed by any website that you visit, or if you do any online gaming.
Thanks for your reply, so his suggestion that I need to change my IP address to Private is just scaremongering to get me to alter settings??
IP location showed London, should it show Liverpool where I live?? Excuse my ignorance, it’s been one of those days!!
Just ignore what was said, its just a scam to persuade you to allow access to your computer.
The location shown for your IP address, could be anywhere in the UK, depending on which POP (Point Of Presence) node you are connected to.
