Am I able to port BT business digital voice to BT residential voice ? this is to move my business number from my work that I closing down the premises, to my home and replace my residential number with my business one. both are digital voice, and from the same local exchange. BT business say this can be done, and need residential to retrieve this number on the day that it is cancelled by business and goes back to Openreach. residential say that this cannot be done anymore, as they don't have a business to residential team anymore. surely they must be a way around this? both addresses also have fibre.
Probably the simplest thing to do would be port the business number to a traditional VoIP provider, this should close down your business account, you don’t interfere with your home broadband ( for the time being leave it as it is ) , some VoIP providers supply a preconfigured ATA ( analogue telephone adapter ) that you connect to the BT router to access the business number over your residential broadband ( so you effectively have two phone numbers , the residential one via the socket on the BT router , and the business number via the ATA ) or they give you the configuration information to configure an ATA that you purchase yourself ( you can buy phones with a built in ATA ).
What you want , as far as renumbering your residential phone number to the business phone number and allowing the residential number to ‘disappear’ , probably is still possible, but not worth the frustration trying to get it done .
If at some point in the future you want to get rid of the residential phone number , when your broadband contract is up for renewal, you simply renew as a broadband only customer and the residential number is removed.
Thank you for this reply. Just looked into my account a bit more, found that I am BT cloud voice express, so forwarded the business number to my mobile to try it. Just need to find out if I can just keep this service if cancelling my others at work? Saw somewhere that when on cloud voice express, the number is mine forever!
As you are a business user, you need to ask on the BT Business forum at http://business.forums.bt.com/
Thanks
