09015xxxx Charges for votes when calling from BT landline

Go to solution

On a BBC program it stated that a vote to a 09015xxx call from a BT landline was 15.2p. (calls from a mobile would’ve been considerably more apparently). But as it’s an 09 number I’ve been charged an additional 28.8p. Is the BBC info wrong, have I been billed incorrectly? Should I raise this with the Beeb?

Calls to 09 numbers usually have 2 parts - the cost of the call and your provider service charge

Hmmm.. well there may indeed have been a ‘standard network access charges apply’ in there somewhere. But all my other half heard was 15p to vote. Of course I’m not bothered about the cost. Just the impression being presented at the time. Far worse things are happening out there.

@pddco

Looking at a recent example of the BBC Sports Personality of the year where they used such  numbers for voting

see

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/articles/cjr2yy05pz0o

Here are the telephone numbers to vote for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2024.

The times when the vote will be open and closed will be announced during the live programme on BBC One, which will be broadcast from 19:00-21:00 GMT on Tuesday, 17 December.

...numbers not posted here on forum  but mobile  (short number) and landline  (long number begining 09015 listed

Calls to the short number from a mobile cost 15p. Calls to the long number cost 15p plus your network's access charge and please ask the bill payer's permission. You can also vote online by visiting bbc.co.uk/spoty where you will find the terms and privacy notice.

So if on screen inforemation or their presenter  didn't give the full information on charges then your complaint is  with the BBC. BBC programmes are  available on iPlayer so if you feel your were mislead you could view the relevent programme and capture say screenshot or video clip on your phone to support your complaint.

@zulu17

Thanks for taking the time with a detailed reply! Yes indeed it’s there that a landline call will need to add that access charge. While mobile short numbers are 15p. When I’ve got nothing better to do (!) I’ll have a look on iPlayer in any case. Thanks again.
