Any way to cancel BT online
Hiya, I'm out of contract with BT, and and moving home soon. However I do not need a BT service at the new address. I read you have to phone BT to cancel? I also noted you have to give 30 days notice, which I feel is just another way for them to charge you for nothing.
Moving home is stressful enough and I do not know the completion date yet. Even when I do, its likely only going to be 2 weeks notice, hence my frustration at having to pay for nothing?
I have a rough idea that i'll complete in a month from now, hence why I wish to terminate the contract. I'm paid up until 23rd oct, so likely would go a week over that, but to be honest, i'd be happy for it to end on that date, 3 weeks from now.
Do I have to call them, an often arduous experience, or is there a way to do this online or even via a mod one here. I have found this forum very helpful in the past when it comes to solving issues.

There is no other way to cancel, it can only be done by phone.

Re: Any way to cancel BT online
There is nothing stopping you giving your 30 notice as the last month of the minimum term starts , so the last month is also the notice period, so how is that charging you for nothing ? , if you leave a property and then give notice , and consequently end up paying for a month that you can’t use ( because you don’t live there ) , that’s your bad ‘time management ‘, you can organise things better so you avoid that ‘wasted’ month , if however you move before the minimum term expires, and have to pay to the end of the minimum , paying monthly or by paying ETC , that’s you , not BT breaking the contract, all BT are doing is expecting you to honour your contractual obligation

Re: Any way to cancel BT online
Moving house has rather unpredictable timescales, so its nothing at all to do with my time management. You also seem to suggest I can backdate or cancel within a given billing period. This would be hand, however its impossible to sync the completion on the house with the BT billing date. However I am happy to end the contract before I move, it will be a bit inconvenient, but manageable.
Guess i'll need to call them

May I suggest a little perspective?
Add up your fees for solicitor, searches, stamp duty, mortgage admin & removal costs. Then compare that figure to a couple of weeks broadband that you may not use.

Re: Any way to cancel BT online
Not sure you have taken my point , if someone has a 24 month minimum term and wants to quit completely, then you give notice as month 23 is expiring, that way the 24th month ( that you are obliged to pay for as it’s part of the minimum term ) is also the 30 day notice, that way you pay for nothing more than the 24 months you committed to…..obviously this may not be easy to align if moving house , but that’s hardly your providers fault or their problem .
You cant backdate your notice, that’s a little nonsensical, you give notice to quit ( if not migrating to someone else ) 30 days later your service ends , early termination charges because that’s notice period ended before the minimum term did , or paying for days after you have already left the property ( because notice was served too late to be the last month of the minimum term ) are down to the customer not the provider.

Re: Any way to cancel BT online
As i'm not under contract, its a moot point then. My contract expired years ago.
However, I looked again at what they offer at my new address and to my surprise, I can have broadband only for about £38 a month, fiber to premises apparently, although its not clear on that and you cannot run a speed test as such.
However if I can get these speeds, 150mbps (this is the minimum guarantee) then i'm interested in staying. When I first queried the system, it was not offering these speeds, however now it is, new estate so I guess things change quickly.
If I can get in excess of 150mbps, thats great, as my 3 mobile broadband wont hit those speeds.
I'd likely keep that as a backup as I work from home and need a reliable backup broadband connection, and 3 mobile is pretty cheap. Plus, i'm under contract to them as when my line was faulty at my current address it took 3 months to sort, so I had to get an alternative connection.
