Background
We are a small business with one phone line, we were with BT for around a couple of years before switching to TalkTalk.
We have not been with BT in any way for over 15 years.
Out of the blue earlier this year we received a bill from BT for a number that wasnt ours and as we are not with BT we discarded it. A second bill arrived a few months later. I called BT and explained that this wasnt our line and that the address was also incorrect although the business name was right. The whole address was incorrect for our area ie line two doesnt exist and the postcode was for a completely different area.
The person I spoke with at BT said to return any further bills marked not at this address. I stupidly threw the bill away as I had opened it. Didnt really give it any more thought and so far no more bills.
This week we have received an email for a debt collection agency to the business email address. They have now also called my husband to request payment.
I have tried speaking with BT this evening but after trying to navigate their options just missed the 6.00 pm cut off for business calls.
How is it that they can bill for a line that you have never signed a contract for?
Any advice most gratefully received.
