BT confirmed renewal offer then rescinded it.

My father-in-law recently spoke with BT to change his account details following the passing of his wife and renew (they were paying a LOT for a basic package). He agreed to the new renewal price and received an email confirmation stating "this order enters you into a legal contract with us", and has just received a call from BT today to say that they are not going to honour the offer!!

Can anything be done here, or does he just have to accept that they can change the terms whenever they want? 

To add to this, the sales rep he spoke to on the phone informed him that the new deal would take effect immediately, so he wouldn't pay another month at the inflated price (nearly 4x as much as what he agreed to renew at), and that the current month would be refunded pro-rata - however they have just taken his existing payment out again...

He's in his late 70's and has never had responsibility for these things before, and with everything going on with him at the moment this is the last thing he needs.

I don't know whether I'm more annoyed about this walking back on their agreement or the fact that they were charging them as much as they were for all these years. It's not like this is for a top of the range package, all he needs is the most basic of connections.

@Simon293 I have highlighted this issue to the forum moderation team. They may not post here until working hours tomorrow. Although they do not have acccount access they can request that Executive complaints team become involved.
