BT have registered a default against me

Hi there,

I was wondering whether anyone could provide me with some advice. I had a BT broadband package a number of years ago. I am disabled and became hospitalised in 2024 and I was unable to continue living on my own. I had made BT aware of the issues I was experiencing. My mother helped me move out of my property and I moved in with her. I was under the impression that the account had been cancelled and there was nothing left to pay after speaking with BT.

I have since checked my credit file and a default has been registered against me by BT. I am now in a position where I would like to try and live independently again but I am unable to get a mortgage due to the default which will stay on my credit file for six years.

I am disappointed in the service I received from BT. I was an extremely vulnerable customer at this time and they were made aware of this. I was obviously given incorrect information when I called to discuss closing my account.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

Many thanks,

Jordan Hay
