Can someone confirm if CPI increases include discounts. I think they do

My contract ends 31 Aug 2022, and from my Sep 2020 bill it looks like it started on 01 Sep 2020.

Looking at the CPI increase email for February 2022, it says:

Another link in the email https://www.bt.com/tell-me-more/?s_cid=con_email_GI_120322_E031_RET-PriceChange&sceid=tell-me-mo... says:

Based on the above, I’m on the border of either 5.4% or 9.3%. My last bill before the price increase shows:

Looking at the figures, I can obtain a £1.52 increase by taking the BB £36.15 subtracting the £8.00 special offer discount and applying 5.4%.

Package Price

£36.15

Special offer discount

-£8.00

Total before CPI

£28.15

5.4% increase

£1.52

Bills after the above show the package price increasing by £1.52 with the LRS and discount remaining the same.

Can others please confirm that when BT calculates the increase, they use the base price minus the discount? Does BT provide any examples on their website? I couldn't find any posts in the forum for CPI with a discount.

I’m trying to guestimate potential CPI increases over the next 24 months using an increase of 18%.

Thank you

The CPI increase is applied to package costs before a discount. The discount remains the same.

LRS has been discussed on another thread where BT admitted they had got things wrong but I don't know how it was resolved going forwards.

Re: Can someone confirm if CPI increases include discounts. I think they do

@conrad, thanks for the reply.

My bill seems to suggest that the base package + discount, without LRS is used to calculate the CPI ££££.

If it was just the base package then £36.15 * 5.4% = £1.95 or £36.15 * (5.4 + 3.9)% = £3.36. Neither of these figures match the email I received in Feb 2020 advising of the increase being £1.52

My bill from Mar 2022 and May 2022 are as shown below. Note, I didn't use the April bill because this would have the pro-rated element due to the CPI increase. It can be seen that the difference is £1.52.

Perhaps I'm not understanding your response?

They never did, the line rental is a one off payment with a  set amount coming off the bill each month yet people think they should be getting more taken off without paying out any more in advance!
