Change account holder for new customer deal?

Hi, Can I cancel my broadband service as it is due for renewal and then have another member of my household  take it on as a new customer to benefit from new customer deals?

You can cancel your existing service completely once you are on the 30 day rolling contract but as far as I am aware the service must cease completely before your family member can take on the service as a new customer to get a new customer discount. You might therefore suffer a complete loss of service until the new contract is in place.

You could of course talk to Retentions to see if they’ll do you a deal to match new customer pricing buts there’s no real incentive for them to flog an existing customer a package that matches new customer pricing. You’re already a captive audience, they don’t need to do you any favours if they don’t wish to.

If you don’t need a landline, you could switch to Plusnet and get a brand new customer deal but you can’t do that with a swap to EE.

If you have BT email addresses and you switch, they’ll be downgraded to basic email only.

Unless you have a need to stay with BT you should shop around to see what other providers are offering new customers and just select one and move to it.

This can be arranged to take place on the last day of your BT contract and it will be a seemless move with no down time. The new provider will do all the work and notifications except if you go with Virgin. You would need to notify BT in that case.

Beaware that not all providers offer a landline phone if you require one.
