Considering moving to EE BB in October

Hi all

My contract for BT BB 900 is coming to an end at the end of October, I am therefore thinking of moving to EE for these reasons 

1. Cheaper - £33 a month ins end of £61 (approx)
2. Better hardware - EE has wifi 7 router.

Anyway my question is (and I have found lots of different answers)

1. Can I still keep my BT e-mail address(s) (have 4)

2. What was the experience like for anyone that has moved across ?

There is nothing too wrong with my current setup, in fact BT have been fantastic for the 20+ years I have been with them, it is just such a price difference of £28 a month saving I sort of need to seriously think about it .  BT can not offer me that sort of deal (well online anyway)

A couple of things.

If you transfer to EE I very much doubt you will get that price which I suspect is the new customer price.

You can keep your email addresses whoever you move to, however unless you transfer to EE rather than sign up as a new customer, your email addresses will be downgraded to Basic Mail which is only accessible via webmail and not via an app or client.

Talking to Retentions might get you a better price.  I'm not so sure if you say you are off to EE, (as a lot of them are the same staff),  but lead them to believe you are considering Sky and it might get you somewhere.

Seems to be a few moans about the equipment but keep in mind that there can be a bit of bias, as most people only post when they want to moan.  The happy people stay quiet.

Make sure you are comparing like for like as regards what each broadband package comprises of. Often people see that base price and don't compare it with what they have such as TV package or other addons such as Halo and a landline phone etc.

You should contact BT and ask for the Retentions department to see what they can offer in order to keep you as a customer. If they won't do better than what you have quoted just leave.

For me a new customer price for BT 900 FF is £31.99 increasing to £39.99 in 2028.

You haven't got any form of Halo have you as that tends to dramatically increase the price?

Personally I'd stick with BT rather than switch to EE as when I was with BT I got forced to EE - bit of deception on the customer service"guide's" part.

My experience of renewing, and the timings of offers etc , I knew my renewal was coming up , so started looking at the offers in the My BT section of my account and was underwhelmed, compared to new customers they were pretty poor , but this was probably 8 to 10 weeks before the renewal date , much close to renewal I received an email alerting me to the renewal coming up (I hadn’t forgotten but some may ) and it contained a few offers , renewal keeping everything the same , switching to EE , upgrades like Halo , TV  (that I wouldn’t entertain) etc ….the offer to remain on the same basis effectively undid the previous 2 years annual increases , and basically put me back to the price  (more or less ) 2 years previously…I took that offer , it basically was the same as what a new customer would get ….I had a little trouble in that the click here to renew link didn’t work , probably a glitch from the status my account had previously had , so had to call a couple of times to sort out  , orders were raised and automatically cancelled, but it was sorted to my satisfaction….so basically I’d not judge the prices on offer now if your renewal is more than 4 weeks away , start looking much nearer the actual date …it doesn’t affect your ability to switch elsewhere if that’s the thing to do .

If you are moving from BT to EE unfortunately you will not be considered as a new customer as both EE and BT both the same organisation these days in fact BT  own EE thes days. Though they still operate as separate campanys a customer of one is considered a customer of the other. So unfortunately transferring from BT to EE or vice verser you are considered as an exsisting customer and the new customer offer you see on the EE web site  will not be offered to you. In fact  the offers  that will probably offered to you will possibly  be similar to what you already have with BT or upgrade one if there one available but not at new customer prices

BTs new customer FTTP deals are cheaper than the  EE equivalents. For each EE speed there can be 4 different price points depending on what you want so the £33.99 is the cheapest "Core plan".

If you use extenders then you would need to buy new ones that are compatible with the specific model of the EE router you receive. These can be a bit quirky to set up as there are a fair few posts about this on the EE forum.

EE have recently mucked up a firmware update which meant that wi-fi didn't work on some routers but this is currently being sorted and really should be cleared by October.

thanks for the info, I do have er Halo 2 but to be honest I don't really use any of that, I will ring BT and EE and see what I can get, any reduction in prices I useful for me right now
