Default Notice On Account

Go to solution

Hi all,

I really need some help as BT have placed a default on my credit file for £41.50, and it’s stopping me getting essential car finance for my pregnant wife.

Here’s the situation:
I moved out of my BT-serviced property in July 2024.

I gave BT notice, and I returned all equipment (I have the confirmation email).

I was paying month-to-month, not under a fixed contract.

After moving, BT continued trying to charge me for broadband at the address I no longer lived at.

I cancelled the Direct Debit because I wasn’t paying for someone else’s internet.

I received no bills, no final notice, and no notice of default at the time.

The only emails I got were weeks later (August 2024) asking for £41.50, but by then BT had already applied a default without warning.

This default has been added incorrectly, without proper communication, and is now severely affecting me.

I’m asking for anyone who can help me get this default removed from my credit file

I am more than willing to settle the £41.50 immediately once the dispute is acknowledged, but I need the credit file error fixed urgently.

Any help from anyone with similar experience or a BT Moderator would be hugely appreciated.

Hi @nathpackham

Thanks for coming to the community.

I’m sorry to hear how this is affecting you, especially when you’re trying to arrange essential car finance.
To ensure this is fully reviewed and corrected, I would strongly recommend giving our team a call. They’ll be able to check the billing history, verify the notice given, and look into resolving this for you.
