Default marked by mistake on my credit file

Good morning,

I am going through a mortgage application which has been rejected due to 1defaulted accounts from BT that I was not aware of. The first time I knew about these was when the credit report was ran as part of the application.
This has happen because my address and email id was not correctly updated and so i have not received any communication from BT team.

I have now paid these in full couple of months back but still BT have marked the accounts as Default and not removed the defaults status on my Experian credit file and Equifax file.

Could someone please help me with any suggestions on how to get this done quickly? I cannot wait 4-6 weeks.

Many thanks

Praveen Singh

@pkumar

The first thing you need to do is raise a dispute with either Equifax or Experian, depending on who the debt is with. You can do that at

  • Online at www.equifax.co.uk/ask
  • Call 0800 014 2955
  • Address – Equifax Ltd
    • Customer Service Centre
    • PO Box 10036
    • Leicester
    • LE3 4FS

or

  • Online at www.experian.co.uk
  • Call 0344 481 8000
  • Address - Experian Headquarters Talbot House
    • Talbot Street
    • Nottingham
    • N80 1TH

They'll then liaise with BT for you.
