Default on credit score

Hello,

My husband had a BT account in approximately 2017. The account was closed, but a default appeared on his credit score in about 2021.
He spent days on the phone and was told it would be removed and the issue resolved. He was reassured all was okay so didn’t look back into it. We are now desperately trying to apply for a mortgage, but this is affecting everything!!! Please help! 🙏🏼😭

@RHarker

This is just a customer to customer help forum, everyone here, including myself, are just customers.

The only BT Employees are the forum moderators.

The first thing you need to do is raise a dispute with either Equifax, Experian etc, depending on who the debt is with. You can do that at

  • Online at www.equifax.co.uk/ask
  • Call 0800 014 2955
  • Address – Equifax Ltd
    • Customer Service Centre
    • PO Box 10036
    • Leicester
    • LE3 4FS

or

  • Online at www.experian.co.uk
  • Call 0344 481 8000
  • Address - Experian Headquarters Talbot House
    • Talbot Street
    • Nottingham
    • N80 1TH

Or

  • Online at www.transunion.co.uk
  • Call 0330 024 7574
  • Address - Consumer Services Team
    • TransUnion
    • PO Box 647
    • Unit 4
    • Hull
    • HU9 9QZ

They'll then liaise with BT for you.

Re: Default on credit score

Thank you for your help!
How do I know if the debt is with Equifax or Experian?
Also do you know a number for BT incase I need to contact them?

Thank you! It’s so upsetting that this can ruin so much and it wasn’t even his error!

Re: Default on credit score

Not sure, but I expect your mortgage provider would tell you who the entry was made by.

I am not aware of any specific number to call within BT, unless you knew the account number at the time.

Please remember that this is s public forum, so pleas do not post any personal information here. Thanks.
