Default on my account

I'm currently buying a house and BT has put a default on my account for none payment of £13. The £13 has been paid and when I've spoken to BT they say they haven't put a default on my credit score.

But the fault is showing on my Equifax and Experian credit check and is seriously affecting my credit score. I've spoken to Equifax and Experian and have stated this on for BT to rectify.

Can you please help.

Re: Default on my account

Have a look at BT Credit Files explained

If you've paid the outstanding debt, the default should now show as 'settled' and will take around 5-6 weeks to update.
If after that time it doesn't show settled, you can raise a dispute :

How to query your credit file

Both agencies must response to a query within 28 days.

Equifax

Contact Equifax:

  • Online - visit the Equifax website
  • By phone - call 0800 014 2955
  • By post - write to Equifax Ltd, Customer Service Centre, PO Box 10036, Leicester, LE3 4FS

Experian

Contact Experian:

  • Online - visit the Experian website at www.experian.co.uk
  • By phone - calll 0344 481 8000
  • By post - write to Experian Headquarters Talbot House, Talbot Street, Nottingham, N80 1TH

Re: Default on my account

I apparently owed £13 when my account was closed yet the debt wasn't taken out of my bank account for 6 months and then in Sept 2021 the money was taken and any outstanding money owed was settled.

I wasn't aware of any of this until I have checked my credit score attempting to remortgage.

Even though any money owed was payed in September this is still showing on my credit score as a fault.

There must be something which can be done by BT to assist with instead of putting the enthaphis on other agencies when BT have caused this.

Regards

Use the links I provided, raise a dispute with the credit agency, they will contact BT whol will investigate, BT will then reply and any mistakes corrected or an explanation why it would remain.
