I recently renewed my existing Broadband contract online (no humans involved) and I have a a smart Hub 1. Looking at the renewal packages offered they all came with a smarthub 2. Will I be getting one as a matter of course or do I need o request it?
Thanks

If your home hub works with your existing service, then you would not be supplied with a later version, unless you are being migrated to BT Digital Voice, which needs the Smart Hub 2.
You do not get a new hub on renewal unless needed for your new package
Why would you want one?
Call me old fashioned, but I suspect the SmartHub 2 is a better product than the SmartHub 1 ...?
No, it isn't. Many would say it is a backward step.
The power of marketing is amazing
In terms of wireless reliability and performance you are better without SH2.
I've just got a SmartHub 2 and I am stuck with it thanks to digital voice.
Not only has it FUBAR-ed my internal network (10.x.x.x - who would have thought...)
I now can't use my NetGear D8500 (with AC5300 wifi) which had great coverage throughout my house.
My backups to my NAS are not recognised (I think due to the IP change) so I now have to start from day 1, having lost all my incremental. Thanks BT!
My download speeds have dropped from 68mb to 52mb
My upload speeds have dropped from 18mb to 7mb
Even with a disc downstairs I don't get much of a WiFi signal in my dining room anymore.
SH2 has not been a great 'upgrade' to my BT service.
