Do I need to cancel old accounts myself ?

Go to solution

I'm currently with Plusnet for broadband and on BT Home Saver Plan for landline.

So I want to sign up for BT Broadband plus Unlimited Minutes Package as it is obviously cheaper.

If I sign up, will BT automatically cancel my Home Saver Plan AND my Plusnet account, or do I have to cancel those myself ?

If you want to have BT Broadband you use the OTS One Touch Switching system. This means that BT will contact and cancel your Plusnet Broadband. You do not need to cancel it or even inform Plusnet that you are moving.

I suspect that it will not cancel your BT Home Saver Plan and you will need to do that your self because your landline phone is with BT and has nothing to do with Plusnet or the OST.

Thanks.
I would hope that BT would know to cancel their Home Saver Plan but unless someone else here can confirm I will check with BT.

BT do not normally cancel anything unless instructed to do so by the account holder or via the OST for broadband.

By taking out a BT Broadband and Landline package you are starting a new contract with BT.

That does not cancel any call package you are presently on as it is a different package unrelated to broadband.

I would call BT Billing 0330.1234.150 to see what they say.

BT find it incomprehensible that you'd want to leave so they ignore every request to cancel

and keep billing you till you **bleep**ing unalive yourself.

@gfgqgshvcnuy8y6826e7  Actually, if you use the One Touch Switching (OTS) service to leave BT to switch to another ISP, they from experience, do not ignore you because they have zero option but to comply with the switching service request.

The bonus of using OTS is that you do not need to even talk to BT (or any other ISP) because the switch is taken care of by the new ISP. The point is, you don’t have to speak to anyone at all, it’s just all done automatically.

What most likely will happen once you initiate a switch using OTS, is that BT (in this case) will make multiple attempts to contact you to dissuade a customer from leaving, sometimes resulting in a favourable drop in price. That is of course if you can bear speaking to one of their customer service agents!

When I switched, I felt I had no option but to permanently block BT from calling my mobile because they just kept calling but wouldn’t even give me the courtesy of leaving a voicemail when I couldn’t be bothered to answer my phone. Funny how they also couldn’t be bothered to offer me a retention deal through MyBT either.
