Final update, on the 4th November my service did indeed remain with BT but I phoned them & said my contract finished on the 5th November & I signed up to a new contract on some offer they had & I'm only paying slightly more than I would have paid with Sky, but it includes a 20GB EE sim card which I've put in a spare phone for when O2 goes down.
