Incorrect address registered with OpenReach

Hi,

We bought our property back in July 2023 and it is undergoing an extensive renovation. When we look on Openreach for our options for broadband it comes up with several addresses linked to our address.  

It lists our address as a house and then it lists Room 1, room 2, etc as related to our house also

Surprisingly the options for Room 1, Room 2, etc  include Ultrafast Full Fibre Broadband ….

however for our house it says Ultrafast Full Fibre Broadband is not available.

Just to point out it is a whole house and is not split into different rooms.

I looked on Post Office Address checker and our address is there but there is no listing for Room 1, Room 2, etc

Can someone help us to correct this so we can have the option for Ultrafast Full Fibre Broadband

Hi Keith,

Not sure who provided broadband before ….this is a new purchase in July 2023 and undergoing a complete  back to brick renovation .

In that case, its probably classed as a totally new property if its been re-developed.

You would be best to contact Openreach about this.

They have a department who deal with re-developments.

if you don't currently have broadband then whichever ISP you decide to place order should be able to get your address corrected in the openreach database

Before we placed an order ( I intend to use BT ) we wanted to make sure that  " Ultrafast Full Fibre Broadband" was available to order at our address.  I will approach BT and see what they say.

How are other properties in the local area  ( very near neighbouring property ) served , is there any evidence remaining of the copper pair service to your  property ? ,

If the area is served by overhead means ( cables from a telegraph pole ) then although your individual property may have some data integrity issues in the Openreach database , if the pole has FTTP equipment on it  ( this could be verified by checking immediate neighbours for FTTP availability ) FTTP should ultimately be available to your address ,  assuming a line of sight exists from the pole to the house wall for a cable to be erected at the appropriate height etc.

If your  address were previously served by underground means ( directly buried cable or cable within underground duct  ),  is  the developer / builder you are using ensuring the integrity of the current duct entry etc. is being maintained.

If the existing underground cable is not ducted , and FTTP is available , some work by OR in the public footpath would  be needed , and they would possibly need to liaise with your builder to get a new duct from the footpath to the building wall .

Post the entire details from the DSL checker for a room that shows availability and for the whole building that doesn’t

Hi Iniltous,

I looked up the details on the DSL checker by the UPRN number for the room. and for the entire address :

Room 1 :

"Our records show the following FTTP network service information for these premises:-Single Dwelling Unit Residential UG Potential Wayleave Issues.

FTTP is available and a new ONT may be ordered.

The exchange is not in a current fibre priority programme.

As a WLR withdrawal exchange, product restrictions apply"

 

Whole Property:

"FTTP is not available.

The exchange is not in a current fibre priority programme

As a WLR withdrawal exchange, product restrictions apply"

 

I check all the other rooms as well ( ie rooms 2 to 8 ) and they alll returned the same results as room 1.

In the meantime I spoke to BT and they suggested that I place an order for Room 1 which would get the Ultrafast Fibre Broadband into the property and then have the address changed on Openreach later on.

With a MDU ( multi dwelling unit ) often the copper pair distribution was a multi pair copper pair provided to a common point ( like a utility area ) and individual cables from this point  to each unit within the  building, often the ‘main’ building would never require service , just the individual units within it , presumably your building at some point was recorded as this type of building.

The copper distribution ( if it still exists after the renovation) won’t be of any use with FTTP but the method to get the cable to the utility area may be reused ( the underground duct to the building from a joint box in the footpath ) , provided it wasn’t made unviable during the building work .

Ordering using a room number is the way to proceed , although the other rooms would remain recorded as separate addresses , unless you ask OR via BT , to align the Openreach records with the Royal Mail address records.

It should be a 2 stage install ( KCI2 as the install method on the DSL checker ) , this ought to get Openreach to do a pre installation survey prior to contractual installation, the results of that could require the builder getting involved should the existing duct etc no longer be viable .

Yours  is a somewhat rare set of circumstances, a MDU being repurposed as a SDU , so expect some ‘complications’ to arise.
