Massive Unacceptable Delay

So myself and my partner moved into a new apartment, just 3 days shy of a month ago. Since then, we've had 0 WiFi and have had to rely on mobile data and the free train station / coffee shops WiFi down the road.

Having applied to register with BT 3 weeks ago, after being told most other broadbands aren't working in our area, we were obviously happy to wait a few days. It's been 3 weeks and so far, we've had our installation date delayed twice, an engineer came to 'test' the WiFi signal and see if the building is BT possible, complained to customer services via phone and been told the outside installation (?) will take place in 2 days....and who knows when it will be activated. Another week?

My partner works remotely and therefore relies on WiFi to do her job, so we can pay to eat. Having to spend £2-3 every day on a coffee to get  free cafe WiFi + extra data is ridiculous, having been going on for 3 weeks.

I can't believe it's taken so long, been delayed and then we've not been given a date when we'll have wifi.

Is this normal? Or are we just victims of a business that just does things when it can be bothered.

We've both decided if we don't have WiFi by the end of the week, we're cancelling all direct debits and going with someone else as to be honest, this is an absolutely dire way to treat new customers.

@E8axXMBF

Welcome to this user forum.

Use the address checker on the page below, and post the results, but edit out your address details first.

You would not be charged until service is activated.

New apartments are normally direct fibre (FTTP) provided by Openreach, so you would have the same issue with any other provider.

Re: Massive Unacceptable Delay

If you have decent EE coverage at home, try requesting a 4G Mini Hub device from BT until the installation is complete.

As above, changing provider won't make Openreach work any faster.

Re: Massive Unacceptable Delay

Is this a brand new apartment, or simply new to you ?
Apartments can be a nightmare to provide service to , especially if they are recently constructed, many developers have sweetheart deals with one particular network provider, and effectively lock out anyone else , basically that requires the occupant to use whatever ISP the developer picked, and that may not be Openreach ( therefore no BT )

if the developer hasn’t don’t this , but the building doesn’t have FTTP at all, getting it retro fitted can also be challenging, with the freeholder, managing agents  etc , required to give permission, that isn’t necessarily going to be given , or they want payments etc , that that are unlikely to get ( and hence no upgrade )
Posting your address on the wholesale checker , will give an indication what Openreach based service are available, obviously other network providers are not on there.
It’s possible that copper pair based service like FTTC are available, but currently ‘waiting list’ , where all the available ports in the FTTC cabinet are in use , and it’s a case of waiting until a position in the cabinet becomes spare, by someone giving up their FTTC service
