No BT account but BT have still taken money from my account.

Hi,

I've recently found that  despite not having BT account, or having ever purchased a BT service, I have had monthly payments taken from bank account from BT:

"05/12/2024 06:10:45 5039 £30.99 RECURRING PURCHASE BT CONSUMER RECURRING LONDON GB Posted ".

This has been happening since April 2021.  My bank has since recently  blocked this but have asked me to contact the merchant to discuss further. However, as I have no account number, or reference number when the payment is taken, I don't have anything to give the automated BT customer system to get through to speak somebody.

Are there any other contact details that I could use to raise this ?

Thanks.

@Fee_faw

Are you saying that BT have been taking money from your bank account for nearly 4 years, and you have only just noticed? 🤔

"I don't have anything to give the automated BT customer system to get through to speak somebody."

Whenever I call a company, (any company), that has one of these automated menu systems, I just repeat "speak to an adviser" constantly. Eventually I get put through to a real person. Even if they are in the wrong department, they can invariably transfer me, or advise how to get through to the correct people.

Has it always been £30.99? Coincidentally the subscription to discovery+/TNT Sports is £30.99pm - could you have signed up for this alongside a tv or mobile phone/sim plan? Maybe you had a free period which expired and you have paid since?

Re: No BT account but BT have still taken money from my account.

Hi,

Thanks for coming back with your suggestions.

The first payment that came out was £25.00 in April 2021. Then in March 2023 it went to £29.99 and then in March 2024 it went to £30.99.

RE: the discovery+/TNT Sports  service; no; unfortunately, that’s not something I’ve signed up to, or something similar. As my work comes with a phone, I’ve only ever needed a ‘pay as you go’ phone as an emergency personal backup. I’ve never opted for any mobile phone/sim plan as it just never suited my needs nor was required.

I’ve been trying to get to grips with this by contacting BT to unpack it further but have had no luck in actually getting beyond the automated systems that request account details. Even getting an email address to log a query seems elusive.

Appreciate your time though in helping.
