Old BT account defaulted on credit file

Go to solution

IMG_5102.png

Hi everyone,

I used to be a BT customer in 2018 for maybe a year. During the end of that year I filed for bankruptcy unfortunately, and the BT account was included in my bankruptcy.

This BT account has been sat on my credit file as it should as defaulted. Defaulted accounts should stay on your credit file for 6 years and they automatically disappear.

The  default date on the account is incorrect, it’s showing 26th June 2019 but it should be 3rd April 2019 as that is the date I filed for bankruptcy and if it was the correct default date it would’ve of course disappeared off my credit file by now.

I’ve contacted Experian to explain this but they can’t change anything without BT’s permission. So of course I have contacted BT, but for some reason they just cannot find my account despite giving all my old details apart from my account number which I don’t know as it is over 7-8 years old.

I have no old correspondence letters or emails for some reason so I cannot find the account number.

The reason for me doing all this is to get the defaulted account off my credit file as it is hindering it quite badly now, as all my old defaulted accounts have disappeared because they had the correct default date.

Really unsure what I can do so any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi @Tomwainwright999,

Welcome to the Community!

I'm so sorry to hear about the trouble you've been having getting this sorted, as I can appreciate how keen you are to get this removed.

I'd recommend giving our team another call, as there is a way we can get this queried, but we would likely need to access the account first. If the agent you speak with is unable to locate the account then you are able to escalate this to a Team Leader, who should be able to do so.
