Re: RETENTIONS - the SCAM of BT overcharging existing customers !!

Well I did contact BT retentions today to give them a final chance to retains me as a customer but to no avail & EE wouldn't offer a reduction either. The lady to whom I spoke more or less said that people were leaving in droves which matches with a report that BT has lost around 250,000 customers this year.

I would go back to Plusnet but they don't offer VOIP which is why I left them.

I've spoken to a  long-time Sky customer who said that he negotiates a new customer price match whenever his contracts expire so I'm off to Sky.

"Where does it give that "price promise"

It is shown every time I look at the renewal "deals" that BT are now offering me via email, as I approach the end of my current 2 year contract.

Re: RETENTIONS - the SCAM of BT overcharging existing customers !!

Are Sky and Plus Net the two providers who use the BT Fibre infrastructure?

If they are I will only move to one of those as I say , the reliability is very good. Its a shame that BT dont seem to care about losing clients.

Re: RETENTIONS - the SCAM of BT overcharging existing customers !!

PlusNet is a part of the BT group and uses OpenReach's infrastructure (the to the house connection), but does not provide an identical range of services - for example they are only just rolling out IPv6.  Sky broadband as a third party is free to use whatever infrastructure providers it can make agreements with; it mainly uses OpenReach and City fibre, but may use other providers if the agreements are in place.

*BT group comprises multiple companies, many of which operate independently and at least supposedly with without preference.

I only learn by making mistakes and owning up to them - boy do I learn a lot!

@womaz

Plusnet, BT & Sky all use the Openreach infrastructure but as @Crimliar  says Sky can use any infrastructure & in places they can offer up to 10 GB speeds

Re: RETENTIONS - the SCAM of BT overcharging existing customers !!

Perhaps things would be different if BT based staff bonuses on customer satisfaction or a reduction in the number of customers leaving for other providers?

Re: RETENTIONS - the SCAM of BT overcharging existing customers !!

Hi @gg30340

I'll try to answer your questions.

BT Halo 3+ is available to order through the BT website and through Customer Support channels. Customers on the Halo plans (1, 2, 3 & 3+) have the price promise included within the terms of their plan.

The BT Halo 3 and 3+ terms and conditions say:
6. How does Our Price Promise work?

You’ll keep the same monthly price, when your contract ends. This doesn’t include any changes as a result of annual price increases. See bt.com/prices-explained for more information.

The original terms for Halo 1 and 2 were worded slightly differently:

8. How does Our Price Promise work?
You’ll keep the same monthly price, when your contract ends. This doesn’t include any changes as a result of annual percentage increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rate of inflation plus 3.9%. See bt.com/prices for more information.

Hope this helps.

Chris

From Openreach:

Why should you make sure you're on our network? We're glad you asked.

We’ve got the biggest broadband network in the UK and it's open to all. More than 650 service providers use the Openreach network including household names like Sky, TalkTalk, BT and Zen. This means that you can choose a package from any of them selling services in your area. We also have more engineers than any one else, using all their expertise to deliver service of the highest quality.

Although probably best to avoid one you've never heard of, unless you check out reviews first. As already alluded to in the thread, price isn't everything.

Re: RETENTIONS - the SCAM of BT overcharging existing customers !!

To be honest if BT remove my Halo package and give me Full Fibre 900 for around £40 per month I will stay at renewal.

The posts on this thread give me doubts that this will happen.

I have looked at my Halo benefits  -  a once yearly visit from an expert......well thats NEVER happened. Not to worry lets see what happens when I am able to negotiate my deal.
