Ive had the same problem, phoned the BT bereavement line to tell them my brother had died on the 9 th September and to cancel his phone account because he lived alene. ( I was at the time very impressed by the man on the other end of the line- he had obviously had some bereavement training .. was absolutely lovely.
However, yesterday I received this letter from the post office redirection service , addressed to my dead brother by name , but obviously I removed his name in this extract:

We're sorry to contact you under these difficult circumstances. Please accept our condolences. We just wanted to confirm that we're closing this account. “ incredibly insensitive, unclear whose account has been closed if BT thinks my brother is still alive!
