The only time a service needs to be reconnected in a 24 hour window is after you pay your bill after your services are restricted for lack of payment. (My sister has issues with paying some bills on time) I get that it's not a fun position to be in but the services would come back on between 4 and 24 hours. This is asap as I presume BTs system has to do some hoop jumping in the background.
It's fairly common practice as I know she had the same thing with another broadband provider a few years back
