Renewal Problems

Ive currently been very happy with BT, I have FTTP Fibre 900 and I'm due for renewal. So I ring up Saturday and speak to a lady who who offered me a deal at 58.99 I currently pay £62 so I'm happy with that on a 24 month contract.

I end the call, to find out that actually with the consumer price index price rise coming in March that (I wasn't aware of at the time) my 24 month contract will be £8 more a month than what she said. So I called back on the same day to ask will mine be affected with it being a new contract? I was told by a different lady that yes it will go up. So I ask to cancel the order as id rather stay on what i have and try again in April to see what I get offered out of contract (Rolling). She said she couldn't do this as the order is open and you cant modify it same day, and could I call Monday.

So I call Monday to speak to a gentleman who tells me that actually if I cancel the order it wont revert back because the old contract doesn't exist anymore as the new one overwrites it, I said can anything be done as I feel the price I was quoted is not the price I'm actually going to be paying from March when the increases come in. He said I can either keep the new contract or cancel wait till the internet goes off and re-apply as a new customer. I said I cant have the internet going off as we WFH. So I had no choice to keep it.

Called the complaints line today to voice my concerns about the whole process, was told I should have been told about the increase coming in March but wasn't, and he spoke to a manager who said actually you CAN cancel an order and go back to the old contract within 14 days, so the kind gentleman gave me his email address in case I have problems. So that now hopefully even though ill pay more in march when the increase comes in, in April ill be out of contract on a rolling one and should hopefully get some better deals. Just wanted to make people aware, as an extra £8 over 2 years is a lot. Just gutted I have to wait now. Just be careful when getting any new internet contracts now as the price you are told wont be what you are paying from next month even on a new deal

Re: Renewal Problems

Apparently if you recontract after 1 March any quoted price wont be subject to the price increase as from 31 March.

There are a number of quite recent threads on this Forum relating to taking out a contract after 1 March.
