Splitting an account and possibly moving to newEE

Hi.  I have 2 lines (and 2 numbers) to my house and one account.  I want broadband moved from line X to line Y (as line Y number is the one everyone knows) and then have line X disconnected due to no longer needing the 2nd line.  After in excess of 6 hours and 4 different advisors I have been advised that they can do it by splitting the account and then I can add broadband to line Y and then I can remove the account,  broadband and line for line X.

my questions are:

1. Do I need to link both accounts to my BT ID before I ask for line X to be disconnected?  Will this cause any issues?

2. If I move from BT to NewEE broadband (which failed before due to 2 lines on the account) will I be able to keep BT ID?  I’ve asked this to a few advisors on the phone and had differing answers.  I only ask this as I have 2 extra black discs meshed with the BT router and the BT ID enables me to control the discs.  If “yes” will this be forever or just for 12 months?  I’m assuming I still use the BT router or will newEE send a different router?

3. I have no idea what BT email I have but I don’t have to pay extra for it, but I use the BT mail app on my phone all the time.  If I moved from BT to newEE would I still be able to use the BT mail app?

Sorry for all the questions but I am getting differing answers whenever I ask the advisors on the phone.

Many thanks.

Re: Splitting an account and possibly moving to newEE

1: If your account is split you would have a new BT ID for that new account wouldnt you?

2: Moving to EE will result in a new router, the BT Discs wont mesh to it, you can get EE ones or just get your own solution I would

3:  This may answer that one: Re: Moving from BT to EE - Page 2 - BT Community

I would definitely get whatever split they are recommending sorted before worrying about EE.

@Yoyo1

Also bear in mind that all phone services are now carried over BT Digital Voice on all new orders, contract renewals, and regrades.

There is a chance you may have to accept a new phone number for line "Y", as in effect, it will be a new order.

@Keith_Beddoe I didnt post this but I was wondering...

Could he just setup digital voice on line X and ask for line Y's number to be put there after the split, he would be able to give permission for that considering its his line?

Saves any risk of provision of BB on the other line, I know the two lines to the same property will likely perform the same but potentially not.

Re: Splitting an account and possibly moving to newEE

Thanks both.  The issue is that line X socket is at the top of the house and I want to move the broadband to line Y on the ground floor to be with the phone number that we have had for 40 years.   Then I can get rid of the line X altogether and save a fortune on not having to pay for ( a now un-needed) 2nd line.

i definitely need to keep the number that we have had for 40 years on line Y.

Re: Splitting an account and possibly moving to newEE

Line Y (the original one) is old and goes through a GPO junction socket but I have had a visit from Openreach who ran a test and assured me that it would work with broadband - however, I’m sure that will be the next saga after getting all this sorted!

Re: Splitting an account and possibly moving to newEE

I hope to goodness I don’t have a new number.  I am lead to believe that at the moment:

One account:  line X broadband and phone / line Y phone only

They will hopefully split the account into two:  Account 1 - Line X and broadband.   Account 2 - Line Y

fingers crossed!
